LAX Los Angeles International Airport PAMS Site Surface Data Notes Data reporting started: December 1, 2007 Data collection has been on-going at this site for some time but the processing and posting of the data here begins on the above date. Inception to May 14, 2008 -- The temperature/relative humidity aspirator had a flow blockage preventing adequate ventilation of the sensors. Data prior to 1400 PST on this date should be used with care as it will be subject to solar radiation effects. Sonic wind data at this site are from a 2-D instrument. This particular instrument has known issues with periodic spikes in the wind speed data that affects both the calculated wind speed and wind direction data. Audits performed have shown the data to be accurate when the spikes are not present. However, it is not always apparent when the data may have been affected. UV Radiation data data prior to May 14 may be biased up to 25% low based on the results of an audit performed on this date. The sensor was cleaned and the response confirmed to be normal following the cleaning. August, 6 2008 -- Shelter Temperature sensor added November 16, 2010 -- The audit performed at the site identified the temperature/RH aspirator was not working due to corrosion of the power cable. The unit was repaired, but data collected prior to this date back to when it failed (date unknown) may have a bias. January 31, 2011 -- A review of past RH data has shown the response to be dropping with few values at or above 92%. The sensor may need replacement. Additionally, it could not be determined when the aspirator failed prior to finding it non-operational during the November 16, 2010 audit. May 3, 2011 -- The 2011 data file now includes the last field for the aspirator current. In the months prior to the data logger program uploading an empty field will be in the file (only a comma). During the installation month the values for aspirator current will appear. The aspirator current started recording on March 29, 2011. The licor solar radiation data starting in April 2011 has shown a nighttime positive offset that seems to vary from night to night. As this sensor is just a backup to the K&Z it will be replaced at some point. In the interim any use of the data should recognize the potential for an offset. August 17, 2012 -- During the calibration the sonic anemometer was removed as it was malfunctioning.
